Division 2 spoils went the way of Callum Eason and Jake Evans at Thruxton this past weekend (May 16-17) as the British Truck Racing Championship took centre stage in Hampshire for the second meeting of the 2026 season.
Reigniting their battle from the end of last season, the pair proved to be the cream of the crop around the fastest circuit in the country, with Eason enjoying a near-perfect outing as he claimed four wins from five races.
Saturday arguably belonged to the WDE Motorsport driver as his campaign sparked into life with a flawless run of results which included pole position and then back-to-back race wins in his MAN TGS.
After ending what was a truncated season-opener on the podium, last year’s vice-champion hit the ground running with a late surge in qualifying, which allowed him to pip both Bradley Harvey and Jake Evans to pole position.
Eason then converted his eye-catching speed into a first victory of the year in race one. Enjoying a strong opening lap, the former MINI CHALLENGE competitor put enough daylight between himself and Evans to eventually triumph, while Harvey completed the podium in third.
Not even heavy rain could stop Eason in race two as the rising star doubled up in emphatic fashion. Tip-toeing around the high-speed track, Eason held off the chasing pack – led by Evans – to make it a super Saturday.
Weaver Motorsport’s Harvey had been running an untroubled third but the DAF driver aquaplaned heading into the Club Chicane late on, which resulted in him hitting the tyre barrier on the kink onto the pit straight.
With Sami Ojanen and John Powell also enduring their own travails, Warren Harvey came through the spray to mark his first ever time driving a truck in wet conditions in anger with a third place podium finish.
Eason’s fine run of form continued into Sunday, where he would start the day from first overall virtue of the reverse grid. As the lights went out, Eason found himself swamped by Division 1 contenders and the subsequent loss of momentum dropped him to the tail end of the field.
Undeterred by that setback, the former car racer set about fighting back and after picking his way through the field, he was soon on the back of Evans for first place. After a number of laps jockeying for position, he took the lead with just minutes remaining on the clock.
Once out front, he eventually pulled clear to make it three wins from three races while reigning champion Evans banked yet more solid points in second. Further back, Ojanen pipped Bradley Harvey to third in a photo-finish at the line.
After playing second fiddle to Eason for much of the weekend, Evans finally claimed his first win of the weekend – and fifth of the season – as he resisted a late charge from his rival to win race four.
The pair had started on the front row together and while Eason dropped into the clutches of the Division 1 front runners, Evans held his own for a handful of laps before finally being passed around the back of the circuit.
By that time the MAN driver had enough in hand to cruise home with Eason and Bradley Harvey completing the rostrum.
The weekend concluded with Eason making a return to the top step of the podium as he mastered what were atrocious conditions, and Evans was hot on his heels once again to tally yet another second place finish.
The 2026 British Truck Racing Championship season continues in just over a months’ time at Pembrey on June 20-21.
