Ryan Smith has heaped praise on his Worldwide Truck Racing team after clinching a ninth consecutive Division 1 title this year.
The Mansfield racer was the cream of the crop in the British Truck Racing Championship this year as he swept his way to the crown, tallying 22 wins in his Daimler Freightliner on the way.
“To now be a nine-time champion is just surreal,” said Smith. “I’m delighted for my team as they’ve worked so hard all year – this is as much their title as it is mine.
“My right hand man Arnie lost his Dad last year and we dedicated the eighth title to him. I’m not a big talker but I sadly lost my Mum this year so that one is for her.
“Nine in-a-row is just amazing; we’ve improved on and off the track over the year and that has come from being older and wiser. Our energy has gone into perfecting the driving and development and now we’re reaping the rewards.
“Of course we couldn’t do it without all our brilliant sponsors and partners so a massive thank you has to go out to them. Now to go after number ten I guess….”
