John Powell ‘over the moon’ after clinching Division 2 title

Newly-crowned Division 2 champion John Powell has shared his delight after he charged to British Truck Racing Championship title glory at Brands Hatch.

Concluding what had been a captivating season in front of a capacity crowd, Powell arrived at the Kent venue holding a slender lead at the top of the standings and while the weekend ebbed and flowed, he held his nerve to reign supreme.

The DAF driver was one of the leading lights of Division 2 as he scored a total of 14 wins on his way to a maiden title.

‘That’s 12 years in the making,” said Powell. “When I was going through that last corner it was just a release of excitement and knowing that we’d done it.

“We’ve been through a lot this year and without doubt it’s been one of the hardest years I’ve had racing. I’m absolutely over the moon to be standing here as champion.

“I’ve got to mention all of our fantastic sponsors; they all played their part in making sure we’ve been at every round and competing. This package came together at the right time and this is the reward, I really don’t know what else to say!”
