The Powell name is one that is synonymous with the British Truck Racing Championship, with John’s father having been one of the pioneers of the sport in the 1980s.

Making his debut in the series some years later, John quickly established himself as one to watch, tallying multiple race wins and podiums, as well as often finishing inside the top-three when it came to the overall standings.

After a number of near misses, John finally charged to title glory in 2024 as he was crowned Division 2 champion after a fierce season-long battle with former title holders Adam Bint and Paul Rivett.

Stepping up to Division 1 the following year, John and his JP Truck Racing team brought a brand-new DAF to the grid in 2025, although mechanical issues hampered his chances of making a real impression on proceedings.

Now having ironed out the issues that plagued him last year, John returns to the familiar surroundings of Division 2 in 2026 and with the target of clinching what would be a second title in three years.
