The 2024 British Truck Racing Championship was celebrated on Saturday (November 23) at the annual BTRC Awards Evening, where the stars of the super-sized series came together to conclude another memorable season.
Taking place at the Sketchley Grange Hotel & Spa in Hinckley, drivers swapped out their race suits for dinner jackets as they joined their teams, families and friends for a night to remember that was hosted by the ‘Voice of the BTRC’, Pointy.
Leading the celebrations on stage was nine-time Division 1 champion Ryan Smith, who lapped up the applause of those in attendance after producing yet another dominant campaign in the series’ premier category.
Former title winner David Jenkins and Steven Powell – who were front runners throughout the season – also scooped silverware having finished the year in second and third place respectively.
Rapturous applause greeted John Powell as he was officially crowned Division 2 champion for the first time; the DAF driver coming out on top of a sensational title fight that saw Simon Cole and Paul Rivett challenge him throughout.
While the customary championship awards were presented, a number of other special accolades were also handed out to some unsuspecting winners over the course of the evening.
Stuart Oliver led the way as he was the recipient of the prestigious Dave Atkins Lifetime Achievement Award. His exceptional career – that has spanned three decades and included titles in Britain, Europe and India – was commemorated in style with a spirited trip down memory lane.
Elsewhere, Stuart’s son Michael Oliver scooped the Most Improved Driver Award while the pair also played their part in making sure that Team Oliver Racing clinched the coveted Team of the Year Award.
Neil Yates’ sophomore season didn’t go unnoticed either as he was presented with the Drivers’ Driver Award. Rounding out the list of winners was Cole Trucksport’s Sam Morse, who walked away with the Championship Manager’s Award.
The 2025 British Truck Racing Championship season commences at Brands Hatch on April 19/20.
