Road To The Finale: Brands Hatch – Rounds 1-5

As the British Truck Racing Championship heads towards its season finale at Brands Hatch, we’re taking a look back on the action that has unfolded at each round – all of which has contributed towards setting up what is a tantalising title showdown on November 1-2.

Brands Hatch provided the setting for the opening rounds of the new campaign back in April, where the heavyweight behemoths delivered an Easter extravaganza in front of a packed crowd on the Indy circuit.

Boasting a capacity entry list mad up of fresh faces and experienced race winners, as well as the introduction of success restrictors, the narrative for this season was that it was always going to be ultra-competitive; and that proven at the Kent curtain-raiser.

Division 1 saw the two most successful drivers on the grid – Ryan Smith and Stuart Oliver – lay down early markers in the battle for title supremacy by sharing the spoils that were on offer, with Smith scoring a hat-trick of wins and Oliver an impressive brace.

Over in Division 2 a similar trend took place as debutant Jake Evans and the experienced Simon Cole ignited their championship challenges by standing on the top step of the podium on more than one occasion; Evans doing so twice before Cole followed up with three of his own.

In the standings, reigning nine-time champion Smith headed the early-going in Division 1 ahead of Oliver and John Bowler whilst Evans’ two wins – along with three other high-scoring finishes – gave him a commanding lead over fellow debutant Callum Eason.
