The British Truck Racing Championship reaches the midpoint of the 2025 season this weekend (August 9-10) as the series heads to Donington Park for one of the biggest events of the year, Convoy in the Park.
Renowned for being the spiritual home of truck racing, the Leicestershire circuit is a firm favourite among drivers and spectators alike – so expect to see plenty of edge-of-the-seat moments as the battle for supremacy in Division 1 and Division 2 heats up.
If five captivating contests aren’t enough to satisfy the appetite of race fans then the edge-of-the-seat entertainment that the Convoy in the Park event delivers will certainly hit the mark with those in attendance.
More than 1000 show trucks are poised to descend on the world-famous track while monster truck rides, drifting, live music, trade stands and much more will add to the spectacle – making it a weekend to remember.
The Magnificent 7
It goes without saying that this season has proven to be one of the most competitive in recent memory for Division 1. The first 15 races has yielded seven different winners and at the top of the standings, a captivating fight is beginning to brew.
Stuart Oliver and Ryan Smith have claimed the lions share of the wins so far and with 19 titles between them – ten for Oliver and nine for Smith – it will come as no surprise that they are the lead protagonists in the race for this year’s crown.
Both Oliver and Smith know what is required to prevail in the UK’s biggest motor racing series and each of them will be keen to break clear of the other this weekend as the championship prepares to head into the business end of the campaign.
Tom O’Rourke, John Bowler and David Smith were all popular winners last time out at Thruxton while Adam Bint whipped the crowd into a frenzy at Pembrey as he triumphed. They, along with fellow winner Michael Oliver, will be hungry for more silverware.
Remarkably, former title winner David Jenkins is yet to stand on the top step of the podium however his consistency has ensured that he still is very much a part of the title conversation as the super-sized series heads to the East Midlands.
Another driver that will be eager to open their account this weekend is 333 Motorsport’s Steven Powell. The Kent racer has endured a frustrating first half of the season but a podium at Thruxton showed that both he and the team are on the right track.
Other drivers to look out for in Division 1 include Team Oliver Racing’s Martin Gibson, Brands Hatch podium finisher Neil Yates, fan favourite Richard Collett and last year’s Division 2 champion John Powell, who debuted his stunning new DAF last month.
Gloves are off in Division 2
The full-throttle thrills aren’t just confined to Division 1 as in Division 2, an almighty battle for championship honours has been developing across the opening three race meetings of the season.
Last time out at Thruxton saw the biggest shake-up yet as Bradley Harvey not only became a race winner but also the new standings leader. The Weaver Motorsport driver triumphed twice and along with several other strong finishes, he rocketed to the summit of the leaderboard.
Leading the chase for the series rookie is the experienced Simon Cole. The IVECO driver is certainly in the hunt and has tallied no less than nine wins to position himself hot on the heels of Harvey.
While Cole has been a force to be reckoned with he certainly hasn’t had things his own way. Series debutant Jake Evans has turned heads by winning multiple races but a catastrophic engine failure at Thruxton has put him on the back foot and with ground to make up.
Four other drivers that will be looking to add their names to the winners’ roll of honour is Callum Eason, Sami Ojanen, Archie Handy and Graham Poole. The quartet have shown pace and potential thus far – and none of them are to be overlooked.
